Spring Lake, Michigan, December 6, 2023 –
Eden Lakes Inc.,
A leading innovator in sustainable lake management, is proud to announce the development of the first independently proven solution for nutrient removal from lakes and streams. This groundbreaking initiative utilizes TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filters, a revolutionary product derived from Proprietary custom designed and Jointly developed TimberChar™ supplied by BioChar Now.
The project was supervised by Dr. Jennifer Jermalowicz Jones, a renowned limnologist, who worked in cooperation with Environment Great Lakes and Energy EGLE under an R97 permit.
The process involved the installation of uniquely designed filters in the inflows to the lake, as well as strategically arranged filters around the perimeter.
These advanced proprietary TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filters, developed in conjunction with BioChar Now, the only company, that could produce the quality and quantity of the timber derived biochar that was required as the base for this development.
The TimberChar™ was created using a specialized high temperature slow pyrolysis process, giving the TimberChar™ unique properties such as positive cation and negative anions, enhancing the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of the TimberChar™.
In her end of season 2023 report to the Silver Lake Restoration Board, Dr. Jones states, Over time, this should result in a decline of phosphorus in the lake, which will reduce algae and increase water clarity. This should assist with restoring the lake back to an aquatic plant dominant ecosystem, which will consequently improve the lake fishery and possibly eliminate the need for supplemental native aquatic plantings in the lake."(if the reader has an interest in reading the full report, it can be obtained by contacting Eden Lakes.)
Over the years, the Silver Lake community had tried numerous techniques to improve the lake's water quality, but without lasting success.
Traditional methods of treating and controlling algae blooms involved the use of chemicals aimed at suppressing phosphorus levels and dumping the concentrated nutrients into the sediments of the lake, essentially making it somebody else's issue. However, these approaches were not sustainable and often failed to yield long-term results. having to be repeated yearly or more often. with no end in sight.
The implementation of the Eden Lake TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filters have dramatically changed the approach to lake restoration. Instead of using other dangerous, harsh and expensive chemicals to simply hide the problem, this TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filter technology addresses the root cause by removing large quantities of phosphorus from the lake’s ecosystem.
By preventing phosphorus runoff and actively filtering the water, the filters help to combat the excessive nutrient loading that, fuels harmful algae blooms.
This breakthrough signifies a major shift away from traditional methods and sets a new standard for sustainable water management practices.
Eden Lakes Inc. is committed to collaborating with regulatory agencies, including the Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) in Michigan, to ensure the sustainability of lake ecosystems. TimberChar™ sets a new standard for sustainable water management practices, addressing the root cause of nutrient pollution and paving the way for healthier and thriving lakes.
One long-time visitor to Silver Lake said she had never seen the lake looking so good in her 33 years that she had rented the cottage by the 24th street boat ramp.
A local business owner said he had visitors comment on how nice the lake was to swim in this year.

From the 10th of June: the day the TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filters were installed, until September 1st the day most of the filters were removed.
Our environmental team work to restore degraded ecosystems and habitats through innovative restoration techniques and management practices.
If you wish to claim back your lake from the curse of Algal Blooms?
Eden Lakes has the tools and the skills, to rid your lake of its algae.
We have the best cleaning process mother nature has derived.
TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filters:
Removes the nutrients from the water to stop the Algal Blooms.
This then allows these nutrients to be used for good. Feeding the Earth the nutrients it needs, to allow us to thrive in a natural healthy way.
You are able to use the resources
as a high value Fertilizer.
TimberChar™ Nutrient Harvesting filters, have been tested for water sequestration and found to hold 5.6 times its weight in water. The pores are very long compared with their openings. There is very little evaporation from the TimberChar™ . When roots do not consume the sequestered water, it is held for long periods of time. Greatly reducing the amount of watering needed.
To soil microbes love the very healthy Earth Food
TimberChar™ pores as they offer good breading grounds. It looks like a concrete condominium complex (see fig 2 above) so they move in to set up their breading colonies. Then spread out through the soil from there, like the good neighbors they are.
To be able to gather these nutrients that cause all the Algal Bloom issues from the lakes.
Then use them in the soil growing our plants where they should be.
The history of using biochar this way dates back thousands of years to civilization in the Amazon Basin.
